Donna Concetta Vase

The grandeur of Sicily’s Arab domination is celebrated in this anthropomorphic terracotta vase that depicts a Sicilian woman handcrafted by master ceramicist Stefania Boemi. The ceramic is hand-glaze in a deep matte black that enhances the expressive visage of the woman and her ornate headdress and crown, from which locks of hair are intertwined with Sicilian lemons. A band of gold foil runs horizontally across her eyes, a striking detail that emphasizes her intense gaze. The vase cannot be filled with water.
